about
Hello! Monika here. I’ve been gone for awhile, but I think I’m back, sort of. Maybe. We’ll see.
I started writing this blog in the mid-aughts while I still lived in Chicago. I now live in Saxapahaw, N.C., a tiny little village not too far from Chapel Hill.
I mostly write about food, but this isn’t strictly a food blog. I’m also vegan, but this isn’t a vegan blog either. (Or an atheist-/yogi-/runner-/mommy blog. Even though I am all of those things.) In addition to food, I like to prattle on about knitting, movies, books, all of the things mentioned above, and my lovely daughter. I’ll do my best not to turn this into an online photo album. (I already do that over here.)
If you’re looking for an older post or recipe that’s no longer here, I’m sorry! I came really close to deleting my entire online history last year, and most of my content disappeared. If there’s something you can’t find but really must have, though, I can probably dig it up. Shoot me an e-mail and I’ll see what I can do.
I ♥ reader mail, so feel free to drop me a line at windycityvegan (at) gmail (dot) com if you have a question, want to swap stories about raising a vegan kid, are compelled to share your favorite book or movie review, or just feel generally chatty.

i have to say, i sincerely appreciate when i see people use vegan and atheist as the first two words to describe themselves. those are the first two things that come to mind when i’m asked to describe myself as well
They really are the first two things that I identify with, because they are inherently *me*. They are my constants – before/after becoming a parent, regardless if I’m more into running or yoga any particular moment, no matter what – they define who I am, and what guides me. They are probably the two things that no one could change about me.
i love that- the two things that no one could change about me. you just put my thoughts into words, exactly.
